You are responsible for presenting on the day you are scheduled. If you are unable to present, you must let me know as far ahead of time as possible. You are welcome to trade with another student, if he or she is willing to trade with you, but please let me know (no last-minute trades except in cases of emergency, i.e. don’t let your dog eat your notes or your project.)  If you are unable to present on your scheduled day, you are responsible for re-scheduling and your points will be reduced accordingly.

All products are due in class on Tuesday 5/22. If your product is electronic, it must be on my computer desktop the day before you present. Please plan ahead and troubleshoot any potential problems beforehand.

Thurs. 4/19 

As you read "Deconstructing the Horse" keep a list of the elements that you find within the author's text. Keep in mind that you will be expected to similarly synthesize your primary and secondary research in your Ethnography product and presentation.  Bring this list to class on Wed. 4/18:

  • research questions - stated and implied (or inferred by you because of her writing)
  • assumptions - hers and others' (AKA biases)
  • challenge to assumptions or bias
  • secondary research
  • primary research - interviews, observations, etc.
  • how she interacts with members of the subculture - is she an insider? outsider? both?
  • how members of the subculture react to her
  • also pay attention to how she introduces her study of subculture, and how she concludes the study
  • does her tone change within the text? Where? Why might this be?
